Maldives' Largest Inbound Tourist Market Still China
2026-Apr-08

China remains the Maldives’ largest source of international tourists.

Data released by the Maldives Ministry of Tourism and Environment on April 2, 2026, shows that a total of 161,259 visitors arrived in the Maldives in March.

As of the current point in 2026, the country has recorded 643,218 international visitor arrivals, representing a year-on-year increase of 1 percent.

While tourist numbers in January and February 2026 rose compared with the same period in 2025, arrivals declined in March due to widespread flight cancellations triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The top tourist source markets for the Maldives so far in 2026 are as follows: China with 94,823 visitors, Russia with 79,326, the United Kingdom with 61,162, Italy with 57,289, and Germany with 43,344.
